What is a Food Safety Audit
According to the FSS Act, 2006, a Food Safety Audit means, a Systematic and Functionally Independent Examination of food safety Measures Adopted by Manufacturing units to Determine Whether Such Measures and related Results Meet with the Objectives of Food Safety and the Claims made in that Behalf.
Why Food Safety Audits Necessary
To Improve Food Safety Surveillance, FSSAI is Facilitating Audits of Food Business Operators (FBOs) through Accredited Private Agencies. This Initiative Encourages a Culture of Compliance by Decreasing the Frequency of Routine Inspections for FBOs with Positive Audit Outcomes, Apart from Regulatory Sampling. It aims to Streamline Oversight and Promote Self-Regulation in food Safety.
High Risk Food Categories:
As per the FSSAI Order issued on 2nd May 2022, and 29th November 2024 Third-party audits are Mandatory for the Following High-Risk Food Categories to Ensure Adherence to Safety Standards.
